Cheeses from three cooperatives: CALF, Unileite and Uniqueijo, distributed by Lactaçores, have been awarded at the 14th National Competition of Traditional Portuguese Long Ripened Cheeses, organized by CNEMA and Qualifica.These awards are the result of a blind tasting of several samples, representing various regions of the country.
São Miguel cheese, 9M matured, was awarded Best of the Best. Its long maturing period of at least 9 months gives it a distinctive taste and a guarantee of superior quality that places it in the showcase of special cheeses.
From the same island of São Miguel, the Nova Açores Alho e Salsa cheese received a gold medal and the Nova Açores Amanteigado received silver. The Famoso cheese received a bronze medal.
For several consecutive years, São Jorge DOP 4, 7, 12 and 24M have once again been awarded a gold medal, proving the uniqueness of the brand and the excellence of the PDO cheese.
From the island of Faial, the matured Ilha Azul soft cheese was awarded a silver medal, while Capelinhos and Moledo, brands known by the people of Faial, received a bronze medal.
