Since 1893, several dairy factories have been installed in Cascalho, in the parish of Cedros, on the island of Faial, forming Castro and Goulart. However, these disappeared, ending this process with the bankruptcy of the former Fábrica de Lacticínios Faial, in 1940.
It was on October 29, 1943 that the current Agricultural Cooperative of Dairy Products of Faial, CRL (C.A.L.F.) was created, inheriting the knowledge and management experience so deeply rooted in the Cedros area.
Initially intended for the transformation of milk produced in the parish of Cedros and some nearby parishes, it quickly grew and spread to other rural locations. It asserted itself as one of the main forces for socioeconomic development, not only in the parish where it is located, but in the entire island of Faial.
The purpose of C.A.L.F. it has always been, and continues to be, that of producing the best dairy products, the fruit of the best Azorean milk. Nowadays, this cooperative produces butter and cheese, holding the brands Ilha Azul, Capelinhos and Moledo.
All our products are the result of continuous work and a total commitment to what we do, involving countless people from production to marketing.
