Capelinhos, an area in the island of Faial altered forever by the volcanic eruption between 1957 and 1958, gave its name to this cheese.
The Capelinhos Cheese is a matured cheese with a semi-hard paste, made with pasteurized cow’s milk and matured for a minimum of four months.
Available in whole format and halves.
In Portugal, this Soft Cheese is named “Queijo Prato” and its name comes from its shape… in the shape of a dish. As a rule, these are semi-hard cured cheeses made from pasteurized cow's milk. To eat sliced, cubed or as you prefer, our range of dish cheeses is varied, being produced on the islands of Faial and São Miguel.
